Destroying Israel is the Muslim world’s “first priority,” Iran’s elite army corp said in a statement on Wednesday, ahead of the country’s wildly anti-Israel “Quds Day” ceremonies this Friday.
The statement, released by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp and reported on by Tasnim News Agency, called on the people of Iran and other Muslim countries to join mass rallies this Friday to demonstrate their solidarity with the “Palestinian cause,” unyielding enmity toward Israel, and opposition to the right of the Jewish state to exist.
The statement, released as Iranian negotiators closed in on a nuclear deal with world powers that might lift major international sanctions against the country’s military, also said that Israel, which it dubs the “Zionist regime,” is the main and common enemy of all Islamic states.
The Revolutionary Guards claimed that the “Tel-Aviv regime” has lost control of its security and alleged a situation of “fragile security” in the “occupied territories,” referring in this case not to the West Bank, but to all of Israel.
“Quds Day” is an annual event, initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, and held on the last Friday of Ramadan. Its purpose is to express solidarity with Palestinians and to oppose Zionism, including Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
