Israeli special police unit Yamam released a video Wednesday afternoon showcasing their arrest of Mohammad Abu Shaheen, who murdered a 25-year-old Israeli man last month, Israel’s Channel 2 reported.
The video starts out with an aerial view, showing a vehicle carrying the special forces parked close to a car in which the suspect is located.
The counter-terrorism unit then exits the vehicle and moves towards the other car with weapons drawn.
The video then segues to a helmet camera mounted on one of the Israeli officers, which shows the team surrounding the vehicle as three men emerge with their hands in the air — the driver of the car and two others with him. One of them is apparently Gonen’s killer.
The commanding officer of the Israeli team that carried out the raid, said they had “received precise intelligence from the Shin Bet regarding Dani Gonen’s murderer.”
“We came to the gathering point and waited to locate the suspect. A few days later, he was found in an area in Judea and Samaria. We entered the area, identified the suspect in his vehicle, and arrested him with two others.”
The commander said, “for us as a unit it was clear: all of those who carry out heinous attack must be arrested and stand trial.”
Twenty-five-year-old Danny Gonen was from Lod. He died in late June after being shot in his upper body by Abu Shaheen near the settlement of Dolev, northwest of Jerusalem and close to Ramallah.
When he was initially found, he was alive but unconscious and was rushed to the Sheba Medical Center by an Israeli army helicopter. He was pronounced dead by doctors about an hour after the attack.
Gonen was an electrical engineering student and the oldest of five siblings.
