Iran’s Intelligence Minister accused the CIA, Mossad, MI6 and others of trying to undermine Tehran’s security, Israel’s Maariv reported on Tuesday.
“The intelligence services of the United States, Israel’s Mossad, the U.K.’s MI6 and other countries in the region are carrying out attempts to challenge the security of the Islamic Republic [of Iran],” Sayyed Mahmoud Alavi said, in a televised interview with semi-official state news agency Fars.
However, Alavi claimed, the efforts won’t succeed in harming Iran, which he called an “island of security.”
Alavi’s bravado aside, foreign media reports have connected Israel to successful attempts at sabotaging Iran’s nuclear program over the past few years. Iran has also accused Israel of being behind the assassinations of several nuclear scientists working on the program.
Alavi also accused others of working against Iranian security, including extremist Sunni terrorists. “Fortunately, our security and intelligence services have succeeded in thwarting all of these plots,” he said.
