Israeli security company Aeronautics has developed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), capable of reaching Iran, Walla! reported on Wednesday.
Called “The Dominator,” the new UAV, with special cameras and sensors, is built to carry hundreds of pounds of equipment. It can fly as high as 27,000 feet, and, if launched from Israeli territory, can be directed by satellite to Iran.
CEO for marketing, sales and business development at Aeronautics Dany Eshchar told Walla! that the drone’s extremely low operating cost — a mere $360 per flight hour — makes it ideal for civilian applications, like monitoring glaciers in the Arctic. But, he said, it has other applications, as well, such as providing security for off-shore drilling rigs.
The concern over potential terrorist attacks against such installations has arisen since Israel’s recent discovery of natural gas reserves.
Aeronautics has begun exporting “The Dominator” to a number of countries, including Mexico and Turkey.
