A hummus cafe in central Israel is offering a 50 percent discount to Arab and Jewish customers who sit together.
Kobi Tzafrir, the owner of the Hummus Bar at the M Mall in Kfar Vitkin, wrote about the offer in a Facebook post last week.
“Scared of Arabs? Scared of Jews? With us there are no Arabs, but also no Jews. With us there are people!” Tzafrir wrote. “Special bargain: 50% discount on hummus to a table where Arabs and Jews sit together.”
The Facebook posted was “liked” over 3,000 times and shared by close to 1,000 Facebook users. Many commentators praised Tzafrir for his idea and one wrote that amid the ongoing terror attacks taking place in Israel, “It’s gestures like this that are the way forward.”
Tzafrir told i100.co.uk he was surprised to hear that the offer, which is valid Sunday through Thursday, has grabbed so much attention. He said many locals have taken him up on it.
“Some people visit to support the idea and the restaurant. They like to visit the restaurant they heard about on Facebook,” he said. He added, “If there’s anything that can bring together these peoples, it’s hummus.”
