United Hatzalah of Israel, a volunteer-based medical emergency organization, released video footage of the aftermath of Wednesday’s terrorist stabbing of an Israeli soldier and another male in his 20s, the Israeli news site nrg reported.
According to initial reports, a Palestinian man lunged for the Israeli soldier, who asked to see the man’s ID papers, and began stabbing him in his torso before being shot dead by a security guard on the premises. Another Israeli man, Yitzhak Strook, suffered light stab wounds to the leg after attempting to overpower the assailant, later identified as 20-year-old Abed a-Rahman Massouda, whose cousin reportedly carried out a separate stabbing attack in Hebron on Monday.
Tensions remain heightened in the Hebron area, which has been a flash point for Palestinian terrorist attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians in the past few months of violence, sparked in part by rumors that Israel was trying to take over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and destroy the Al Aqsa Mosque. There have also been frequent clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli security personnel in the area.
In Hebron on Monday, Israeli security officials arrested four members of Hamas — the Gaza-ruling group whose leaders have condoned the recent wave of stabbing attacks against Israelis as a legitimate means of resistance.
One of the victims of Tuesday’s attack, a male in his 20s, was the son of Orit Strook, a former Israeli parliamentarian from the Jewish nationalist Habayit Hayehudi (Jewish Home) party.
Following the attack, Strook told reporters at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where her son was evacuated, that she had predicted an incident like this would occur on that spot.
“It was something that was so foreseeable, that should not have been allowed to happen,” Struk said.
She said she had warned the local Israeli military authorities that the security check post outside Beit Hadassah in Hebron, where Tuesday’s stabbing occurred, was under-guarded, though the area is routinely patrolled by Israeli soldiers.
