The number of terrorist attacks was lower in December than in previous months, a monthly report by the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency in Israel said on Thursday, according to Israel Radio.
In December, the number of terrorist attacks was recorded as 250, which is 80 fewer than the number registered in November. There were three Israeli fatalities as a result of these attacks, compared with 10 the month before, according to Israel Radio.
At the same time, most of the attacks involved the throwing of Molotov cocktails — attacks whose resultant casualties have been markedly lower than the stabbings, car-rammings and shootings also typical of the last nearly four months of incessant terrorist attacks against Israeli security personnel and civilians.
The fatalities included two Israelis who were stabbed to death by two Palestinians at Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on December 23, and another man who was stabbed multiple times December 7 near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, and died of his wounds on December 30.
Israeli security forces have been battling a wave of almost daily terrorist attacks against Israelis since the Jewish High Holidays in October, when rumors swirled that Israel was trying to change the status quo on the Temple Mount to allow Jews the right to pray there.
There has been a surge in violence against Israeli security personnel and civilians in the West Bank and around Jerusalem during this time period, but attacks in this vein have also occurred in cities across Israel, including Tel Aviv, Ra’anana and Afula.
