An Israeli woman was killed in a Palestinian stabbing attack at her home in the settlement of Otniel, south of Hebron, the Hebrew media reported Sunday evening.
According to initial reports, the assailant managed to enter a private house and murder 38-year-old Dafna Meir in front of her 15-year-old daughter, before fleeing. Three other of Meir’s six children were also at home at the time of the attack.
Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack attempted to revive the woman, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, according to Israel’s Channel 2, as security forces continue to search the surrounding area for the terrorist — lighting the entire vicinity with flares — Otniel residents are being instructed to remain inside behind locked doors and windows.
The woman’s daughter, who witnessed the attack and its perpetrator, is providing a description for investigators.
The IDF is investigating a suspicion that the attacker was employed in the community, one member of whom is American-born Rabbi Yehuda Glick, an activist for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount.
Glick himself survived a terrorist attack. In October 2014, he was shot at point-blank range by a member of Islamic Jihad — who worked at the restaurant of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem — after participating in a panel on the premises.
In the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s murder, Glick told Channel 2 that “since its establishment, Otniel has tried to live in peace with all its neighbors and maintain good relations with them. This is why there are quite a few Palestinian workers here.”
