Famed rocker and pro-gun activist Ted Nugent posted a meme on Facebook comparing gun control advocates to Nazis shortly after Jewish groups condemned another post on Monday which implied that Jews were behind gun control.

“Soulless sheep to slaughter. Not me,” the musician and NRA board member wrote over an image of Jewish prisoners walking past Nazi guards.

A day earlier, the Anti-Defamation League and Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned another post by Nugent, showing 12 Jewish-American politicians and activists stamped with the Israeli flag under the question, “So who is really behind gun control?” Among the politicians were Rahm Emmanuel, mayor of Chicago, a city that saw 2,987 shooting victims and 488 homicides in 2015, Senator Chuck Schumer (NY-D), Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and attorney and pro-Israel advocate Alan Dershowitz.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt wrote a letter calling on Nugent to take the post down:

Ted Nugent has a long history of being an equal opportunity offender. But his latest share on Facebook, making the outrageous suggestion that Jews are behind gun control, is nothing short of conspiratorial antisemitism. Regardless of one’s views on gun control, this kind of scapegoating of an entire religious group is completely unacceptable and completely divorced from reality.

It should go without saying that antisemitism has no place in the gun control debate. Nugent should be ashamed for promoting anti-Semitic content, and we hope that good people on both sides of the gun control debate will reject his tactics and his message. We hope that Nugent will have the good sense to remove this share immediately so that it does not spread virally across the internet.

Nugent did not take the post down by Tuesday; his Holocaust post was uploaded shortly after the first.

SWC Associate Dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper said Nugent “won’t be getting a free pass for his antisemitic bigotry.”

“There are Jews on both sides of the gun control controversy and Nugent knows it. He owes our community an apology. He can start by removing the offensive graphic and if  he won’t we urge Facebook to do it for him,” he said, according to a statement.

Nugent did, meanwhile shoot down one Holocaust denier who posted on his wall about the Holocaust, “Maybe it doesn’t make sense because it didn’t really happen?”

Nugent responded, “sure austin, it was just a movie. dips***.”
