At least two gunmen opened fire on Sunday toward Israeli reserves patrolling in the northern West Bank near Mount Gilboa, Army Radio reported.
No soldiers were wounded in the shooting and the gunmen were shot dead, according to the report.
The shooting happened after the reserves were called to patrol within the Seam Zone — the area between Israel’s security barrier and the Green Line — near Gilboa.
The gunmen penetrated the area and began to fire at the Israeli reserves, who returned fire and killed the two gunmen. The troops recovered two M16 rifles from the scene of the shooting, according to Army Radio.
The shooting occurred the day after three Palestinians targeted a vehicle carrying Israeli Border Policemen using their own car, wounding three officers aged 21, 29 and 43. The terrorists were shot and two of them were taken to Hadassah medical center in Jerusalem for treatment.
Israel has been facing a constant wave of attacks since last October. Most of the attacks have been random stabbings committed by lone wolves, mostly in the West Bank and Jerusalem, against Israeli security forces and civilians. The last shooting before Sunday was committed by an Israeli Arab man at a Tel Aviv pub on January 1.
