Israel will increase funding for the absorption of Jewish immigrants from Brazil, the Hebrew news site nrg reported on Monday.
The government is expected to give at least NIS 1.18 million to the Jewish Agency for Israel and World Zionist Organization, in order to meet the needs of Brazilian immigrants and encourage additional aliyah from that country. The funds will be spent on adjusting-to-Israel seminars, employment placement programs, Hebrew-language courses and student preparation for the psychometric exams required for applying to Israeli universities.
The fund allocation is being made in light of the anticipated increase in Brazilian Jewish immigration to Israel this year. To date, one-tenth of the country’s 120,000 member community has made aliyah.
