The decision by Israel to release Khader Adnan, an admitted member of the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad, in April, has drawn rebuke from a number of Israeli government officials.
Lawmakers, including Deputy Knesset Speaker Danny Danon say releasing Adnan, who went on a self imposed 66 day hunger strike, drawing the attention of Palestinian supporters worldwide, was the wrong way to go in dealing with the detainee.
Danon said that Israel “capitulated to terrorism” and that “this deal renders the Israeli values system meaningless.”
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman took aim at Palestinian leadership for their support of Adnan during his detention.
“I hear about Arab MKs from all sides standing at the head of demonstrations in support of a terrorist from Islamic Jihad on hunger strike,” he said. “Still, I don’t see one of them ringing any bells about the murder of thousands in Syria.”
“This is betrayal of the Arab nation, betrayal of the citizens of Syria and betrayal of the state of Israel. They defend a representative of the Islamic Jihad instead of condemning the murder of thousands, Lieberman continued.”
In response to Israel’s decision to let him go free on April 17th, Adnan has ended his self imposed hunger strike.
The Algemeiner has found a video of Adnan speaking at the funeral of a senior commander for Islamic Jihad’s military wing, The Quds Brigades, in 2007. You can watch the video below.
