JNS.org – Some pro-Palestinian activists are likely throwing a fit after Israeli Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal, who is 112 years old, was officially confirmed as the oldest man alive by Guinness World Records on Friday.
Why you might ask? Because apparently another Palestinian man deserves the credit.
JNS.org first reported on Kristal in January, following the death of 112-year-old Japanese man Yasutaro Koide. Kristal then received the title of oldest man from the US-based Gerontology Research Group, at the time pending the validation of its finding via official documentation.
Kristal’s age is especially poignant because he survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, as well as several other concentration camps. He lost his first wife and two children in the Holocaust, but later remarried, made aliyah, and had more children.
“I don’t know the secret for long life. I believe that everything is determined from above and we shall never know the reasons why,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Though their authenticity and intention has not been verified, several apparent pro-Palestinian comments on January’s JNS.org Facebook post about Kristal criticized the decision. Some users even took the trouble to question whether Kristal really deserves the title given the “existence” of another candidate.
“Not true…a 130-year-old man just died in Palestine. and STOP using the Holocaust and its survivors to justify your wickedness heretical Zionists,” one user wrote.
“A Palestinian man died at 127 just a few days ago !! “ another user wrote.
Given today’s news, it’s likely that some people’s heads are exploding right about now.
