As the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu grapples with the toughest issues of the day. As the democratically elected leader of the Jewish state, he is responsible for the safety and security of all his nation’s 8 million citizens.
This is no easy task, to be sure.
He has been elected to serve as Israeli premier four times; at the end of this term, he will become the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Israel. Netanyahu has led the nation through several wars and other crises, including the current “Stabbing Intifada,” the U.S.-backed nuclear deal with Iran and the unresolved status of a Palestinian state.
In May 2015, he announced that he would run in the next general election for an unprecedented fifth term as prime minister of Israel.
