Jonny Daniels
Founder of From the Depths
Jonny Daniels is the founder of the group From the Depths, which in early 2016 helped to promote Holocaust commemoration by pledging to provide new offices to an association of Poles who jeopardized their lives to save Jews during the Nazi genocide.
From the Depths allocated an open-ended subsidy of about $15,000 annually for a new office space for the Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations, a title conferred by the State of Israel on non-Jews who helped to save Jews during World War II. About 6,500 Poles have been honored, the highest number of any country.
Originally, Daniels created From the Depths to memorialize victims of the Holocaust properly, after seeing a human bone in a Polish Jewish cemetery where his ancestors were buried. His group also has worked to reclaim Jewish gravestones that were repurposed for other use during the Nazi regime and ensuing Communist rule in Poland.
