Matthew Lee
Associate Press journalist
A top-notch journalist at the Associated Press, Lee asked the most important questions at the most important times. He pondered why the U.S. State Department condemned Israeli shelling of a UN-run school during the 2014 Gaza war, when the United States has taken similar actions, such as the purported U.S. strike that killed at least 16 people at a hospital run by medical aid group Médecins Sans Frontières in the Afghan city of Kunduz.
In pressing the State Department spokesman, Lee said, “What I’m most curious about is that this statement said the suspicion that militants are operating nearby does not justify strikes, which – and the military has said that it was called in because the Afghans asked for it. But [Doctors Without Borders] says that they had been given the coordinates much in the same way the IDF had been given the coordinates of the school in Rafah.”
Lee has challenged U.S. government officials on a range of other subjects, including Iran, North Korea and the Crimea, saying. “Isn’t it time to recognize these things for what they are and not live in this illusion or fantasy where you pretend that things that are, are not?”
