Following calls on Donald Trump to reject the blatantly antisemitic statements of white supremacist David Duke – who earlier this year endorsed the real estate mogul’s candidacy — the presumed GOP presidential nominee did just that, his executive vice president and chief legal officer told The Algemeiner on Thursday.
Jason Greenblatt, interviewed in these pages on Wednesday for his role as Trump’s informal Israel adviser, said, “I spoke to Mr. Trump about David Duke’s recent statements. Mr. Trump told me that antisemtism has no place in our society, which needs to be unified, not divided. Mr. Trump also said that he totally disavowed such statements by David Duke.”
The statements in question were made by the former Klu Klux Klan leader on Dr. David Duke Radio on Wednesday. Celebrating what he called Trump’s “amazing victory” in the Indiana primary on Tuesday – after which contenders Ted Cruz and John Kasich withdrew from the race – Duke let loose with a tirade against the Jews.
Duke also attacked Cruz for receiving money for his campaign from a “Jewish leftist commie,” adding that “Jewish chutzpah knows no bounds.”
Duke went on to say that all “Jewish extremists” who oppose Trump are “really going to be doing by doing a ‘Never Trump’ movement is exposing their alien, anti-American, anti-American-majority position to all the Republicans and they’re going to push people more into awareness that the neocons are the problem, that these Jewish supremacists who control our country are the real problem and the reason why America is not great.”
As The Algemeiner reported on Thursday, after the program aired, the Anti-Defamation League said the “onus is on Trump to distance himself from the antisemitism of David Duke.”
