Watchdog Seeks to ‘Stigmatize Individual Members of Anti-Israel Groups’ With UCLA Poster Campaign

A recently launched campaign at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) seeks to “stigmatize individual members of anti-Israel groups,” the head of the watchdog organization behind the initiative told The Algemeiner on Wednesday.
David Horowitz, founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC), was referring to the placement across the UCLA campus of posters that name members of the activist group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) — which he contends is a “Hamas front” whose express purpose is to promote the Gaza-based terrorist group’s genocidal agenda — and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Horowitz said that the individuals specified in the posters — identified through information found on the database of the clandestine campus monitor Canary Mission — “are witting or unwitting agents of the terrorists spreading Jew-hatred on American campuses.”
He explained that the campaign was inspired by an earlier, unrelated controversy surrounding the former president of the school’s Graduate Students Association, Milan Chatterjee. Chatterjee was forced to switch universities at the end of his second year of law school, after being harassed by BDS supporters for refusing to fund an event in which the group was participating.
Horowitz then referred to UCLA Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Jerry Kang — who approved a decision to investigate Chatterjee — as “a notorious supporter of SJP’s attacks on Israel and Jewish students, who bears the primary responsibility for the decision of Chatterjee to leave.”
One of the DHFC’s posters takes direct aim at Kang, featuring his image accompanied by the caption, “Advocate of campus terrorist supporters.”
Another depicts three figures — “Europe,” “Israel” and “America” — behind a bulls-eye. The caption warns that “the terrorist war” will make its way to the US.
A third shows a masked Hamas terrorist holding an AK-47 alongside a list of names of SJP and BDS activists at UCLA.
A fourth, tracing the source of SJP funding, depicts a Hamas terrorist holding the strings of a puppet labeled “American Muslims in Palestine,” which controls a marionette branded “Students for Justice in Palestine.”
This is not the first time the DHFC has employed such a campaign targeting anti-Israel activists at UCLA. In April, the group prompted a major controversy after hanging posters naming students who, it alleged, “have allied themselves with Palestinian terrorists to perpetuate BDS and Jew hatred on campus.”
Horowitz told The Algemeiner that the push-back his organization received then was due to its having “hit a vital nerve.” He said it is too early to tell what response the current campaign will elicit.
On Wednesday, as The Algemeiner reported, the DHFC also released a report on the “Top 10 Schools Supporting Terrorists.”
