A Virginia realtor said she “refused to be bullied” by protesters who attempted to disrupt her showing of a property to potential buyers last week because the company she works for does business in Israel.

RE/MAX agent Ellen Moyer told The Algemeiner that while holding an open house on October 30, she was confronted by two Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) activists who entered the premises and began to deliver a political diatribe.

“They asked me if I’m aware I work for a company that sells homes in ‘occupied territory,’ and began to talk about Israel killing innocent Palestinian children,” Moyer recounted. “I’m very sensitive to the issues surrounding BDS and it’s discussed a lot among my family and friends, especially with my daughter going away to college next year.”

Moyer said she demanded that the pair leave immediately, but they didn’t comply until she told them “very sternly four more times to get out.” At this point, she said, the two went to the curb outside the house, where they held picket signs accusing RE/MAX of violating international human rights law for its business ties to the Jewish state.

“I could see them approaching the cars of people interested in coming to the open house and handing them anti-Israel literature,” she said.

When neighbors “attempted to reason with these people and tell them their actions are only hurting the owners of the home who really needed to sell it, they said they had a right to be there because it was public property.”

Moyer sent footage of the incident to her employer, who promptly phoned to express his concern.

“He told me that this kind of protest in front of someone’s house had never happened before, though BDS activists had picketed RE/MAX offices in 2014, to try to prevent the company from selling homes in Israeli settlements,” she said. 

While the entire experience left Moyer — who is Jewish — feeling “uncomfortable and angry,” she told The Algemeiner that she has already held discussions with fellow realtors on how to be prepared for such an incident in the future.

“I didn’t let anything stop me,” she said, “and it now makes me want to become more involved.”
