JNS.org – Israeli security forces stationed at the Qalandiya checkpoint, located north of Jerusalem, foiled a terrorist attack Tuesday. The security forces shot and killed the assailant, and no other injuries were reported.
A Palestinian man believed to be a resident of the area arrived at the checkpoint on foot and entered the vehicle lane, police said. One of the Israeli Border Police officers at the scene became suspicious and approached him, asking him to identify himself.
During the conversation, the policeman noticed that the suspect’s hand was kept inside his pocket. When the policeman asked the suspect to show his hand, the man drew a knife and tried to stab him several times. The two struggled, and the policeman shot the terrorist, who sustained critical wounds and died shortly thereafter.
Meanwhile, Israeli security forces arrested 17 wanted Palestinians early Wednesday morning. Eleven of the men are suspected of terrorist activity, including violent riots against civilians and security forces. Of those arrested, six are Hamas terrorist operatives.
