JNS.org – US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Thursday that America “absolutely” supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but is open to fresh ideas for a peace deal.
Maintaining her country’s long-standing backing of the two-state paradigm, Haley added — following a UN Security Council meeting about the issue — “we are thinking out-of-the-box, as well.”
According to Haley, the US is hoping to bring the Israelis and Palestinians to “the table, to have them talk through this in a fresh way, to say, ‘Okay we’re going back to the drawing board. What can we agree on?’”
Haley’s comments came a day after President Donald Trump appeared to back away from unwavering US support for a two-state solution in a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I’m looking at two-state and one-state, and I like the one that both parties like,” Trump said, in what some have called a reversal of two-decades of US policy.
