JNS.org – Construction has been approved for an ambitious project to build Israel’s new tallest skyscraper.

The Israeli Finance Ministry’s district committee has signed off on the Miloslavsky architects company’s June 2014 plan for a 100-floor, 400 meters (1,312 feet) high “Tower Between Cities,” to be built on the edge of the Ramat Gan diamond and business district. The committee accepted both the construction plan and Tel Aviv city engineer Oded Gvuli’s recommendation to allow the tower’s base to cover more than 166,500 square meters (546,000 square feet).

The building will outstrip the country’s current tallest building, Moshe Aviv Tower in Tel Aviv, which stands 244 meter (801 ft) tall.

“[A] building such as this has yet to be built in Israel,” Gvuli told English-language Israeli news site Yedioth Ahronoth.

The skyscraper will house offices, public spaces and hotel rooms, and will feature 24 high-speed elevators to accommodate the expected heavy load of visitors and workers.

The project is expected to be completed in 2023 .
