JNS.org – After Israel’s defense establishment conducted a test of a rocket propulsion system Monday, the test left a white trail visible for miles across the center of the country’s skies.
Following the trial launch, the defense establishment’s comments did not address whether or not the test was successful.
“A few minutes ago Israel tested a rocket propulsion system from a base in the center of the country,” the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement. “The test was arranged in advance by the security services and was carried out as planned.”
Commentators said the propulsion system involved in the rocket trial could potentially be utilized to launch ground-to-ground or ground-to-air missiles — such as those used in Israel’s advanced Arrow missile defense system, which is designed to intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles outside of the Earth’s atmosphere.
