Director Oliver Stone Reportedly Went on Unaired Anti-Israel Rant on Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’

Famed film director Oliver Stone — who has a history of making antisemitic remarks — went on an anti-Israel tirade during a recent appearance on Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show,” but the comments were never aired, a source told the New York Post‘s Page Six this week.
The source — an audience member at the taping of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Monday — said that Stone’s rant began when Colbert asked the Oscar-winning director — who came to promote his new Showtime series “The Putin Interviews” — about his vocal support for Russian President Vladimir Putin amid claims of Russian interference in the US election. Stone, according to the report, attempted to instead make the conversation about Israel.
The source said audience members “watched from behind [their] hands” as Stone claimed in the unaired portion of the interview that “Israel had far more involvement in the US election than Russia.”
Stone then reportedly challenged Colbert, saying, “Why don’t you ask me about that?” The talk show host was said to respond, “I’ll ask you about that when you make a documentary about Israel!”
The source described Stone’s comments against Israel as “painful to watch” and “a classic antisemitic canard.”
The portion of the interview that was broadcast was described as “fiery,” “tense” and “bizarre” by critics, according to Page Six. At one point, Stone expressed sympathy for Putin, saying, “He’s been through a lot. He’s been insulted and abused . . . abused in the press, in the media.”
In 2010, Stone described Nazi leader Adolf Hitler as history’s “easy scapegoat” and said Hitler “did far more damage to the Russians than [to] the Jewish people.” He argued this was largely unknown because of “the Jewish domination of the media…there’s a major lobby in the United States. They are hard workers. They stay on top of every comment, the most powerful lobby in Washington.” He also said, “Israel has f***ed up United States foreign policy for years.” Stone later apologized for his comments.
In 2013, Stone’s son, Sean, made a series of anti-Israel remarks during an interview on Russia’s RT television network.
