Israel’s national emergency service, Magen David Adom, is helping train volunteer first responders in India, the Hindustan Times reported this week.
The project — being run in cooperation with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) — is focused on teaching participants how to carry out tasks such as “bandaging wounds, stopping bleeding [and] cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),” the report said.
“This mission between India and Israel is an initiative to train the community in providing first aid during emergencies, natural disasters and accidents and to teach life-saving skills that will save precious lives,” Dr. Vanshree Singh — director of the IRCS blood bank — was quoted as saying.
Israel and India are currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations. Ties between the two countries have flourished in recent years and, earlier this month, Narendra Modi became the first-ever sitting Indian prime minister to visit the Jewish state.
