The three Israelis murdered in Tuesday morning’s terrorist attack near Jerusalem were identified as Solomon Gavriyah, 20 from Be’er Yaakov, Youssef Ottman, 25 from Abu Ghosh, and Or Arish, 25 from Har Adar, the West Bank community where the shooting took place.
All were laid to rest later on Tuesday.
The perpetrator of the attack — 37-year-old Nimer Mahmoud Ahmed Jamal from the neighboring Palestinian village of Beit Surik — was shot dead at the scene.
Gavriyah, a Border Police staff sergeant, had previously been lightly wounded around a year ago by a terrorist in a stabbing incident not far from where he was killed on Tuesday.
The Hebrew news site nrg reported that Gavriyah had insisted on returning to service after recovering.
“Solomon loved the country and wanted to defend it,” Be’er Yaakov Mayor Nissim Gozlan said on Tuesday.
Ottman, a civilian security guard, had lost a cousin in the 1997 Mahane Yehuda Market bombings in Jerusalem.
“He was a good guy, who was devoted to his job, was quiet and loved to help others,” a friend of Ottman was quoted as saying. “He had plans to get ahead at work in the future, save some money and buy a home before getting married.”
Arish, also a civilian security guard, had grown up in Jerusalem and moved to Har Adar around a year ago.
“He was supposed to do an evening shift, but he asked to also do a morning shift to save money for school,” a neighbor told the Hebrew news site Ynet.
