James Bond uses Krav Maga, the Israeli based form of self defense and military training, for his missions around the world.
Daniel Craig, who played the British super-agent in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace and is signed on for an additional 9 Bond films was “very impressive” and “all business” when he began training with instructors associated with Darren Levine’s Krav Maga Worldwide, according to Details Magazine.
Other A-list actors who have gone through Krav Maga training include Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher.
“We trained Leonardo DiCaprio for Blood Diamond. He was out of shape when he first came to us, and he left rock-solid,” Levine told Details.
Developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, a boxer and wrestler during the 1930’s in order to defend a Jewish community in Slovakia, Krav Maga is now used by police, military, and intelligence services around the world, including in the United States and Israel. Lichtenfeld served in the Israel Defense Forces for 20 years, beginning in 1948 with the creation of the Jewish state.
7-time Grammy Award winner John Mayer is also a Krav Maga enthusiast.
“The marines put him through a conditioning challenge they call the Crucible, and he showed real toughness,” David Kahn told Details Magainze. Kahn is the chief instructor in the United States of the Israeli Krav Maga Association.
“Most people are never going to have to use the fighting skills, but they’re going to come out of a workout feeling empowered,” Kahn said.
