A pro-Palestinian blogger and activist announced on Tuesday that she was refusing to accept an award from the cosmetics giant Revlon because of its relationship with brand ambassador Gal Gadot.

Amani Al-Khatahtbeh — also known by her blog name MuslimGirl — wrote to her almost 50,000 followers on Instagram that she could not accept Revlon’s Changemaker Award, given for her efforts to combat gender inequality and stereotypes against Muslim women, due to Gadot’s involvement with the company and her support of the Israel Defense Forces.

“As much as this means to me and I would love to be there to celebrate with you, I cannot accept this award from Revlon with Gal Gadot as the ambassador,” she said. “Her vocal support of the Israeli Defense Forces’ actions in Palestine goes against MuslimGirl.com’s morals and values.”

The 26-year-old Al-Khatahtbeh also mentioned Palestinian teen Ahed Tamimi, who was recently arrested after she was filmed repeatedly punching, slapping and kicking two IDF soldiers. Al-Khatahtbeh voiced support for the teenager, saying, “I can’t, in good conscience, accept this award from the brand and celebrate Gal’s ambassadorship after the IDF imprisoned a 16 year-old girl named Ahed Tamimi last month, an activist who is currently still incarcerated.”

Al-Khatahtbeh concluded, “I think we are in a moment where we must persist that women’s empowerment includes ALL women. From the bottom of my hear, I feel I would not embody the meaning of the Changemaker Award if I were to accept in these circumstances.”

Revlon has not commented on Al-Khatahtbeh’s decision to reject its award.
