Haaretz – Night has fallen. Maozia Segal, who lost both legs and one arm when a mortar fell in the Golan Heights in May 1974, is sitting in his living room and reminiscing.
“I got this house by chance,” he says. “About a year after I was wounded, the Defense Ministry official in charge of housing came to see me in the hospital. He told me about a new project for disabled veterans in Tzahala. At that time, in marked contrast to today, Tzahala was a hole, the end of the world. I was not overly impressed. I went to see the project with Moshe Matalon, who is now an MK [Yisrael Beiteinu]. We drove in our cars: I am a double amputee, he is paralyzed. We sat across from the house I now live in, in our cars. We looked to the east and saw orchards. ‘Hey, are we going to live in this place?’ he asked. ‘No way,’ I replied immediately.”
