Father of IDF Soldier Slain in Car Ramming Attack: ‘God Takes All the Angels’

“God takes all the good ones, all the angels,” the father of fallen soldier Ziv Daos told gathered mourners as he was laid to rest on Sunday, two days after being slain in a car-ramming attack.
Daos, 21, was killed near the town of Mevo Dotan in the northern West Bank on Friday when a Palestinian terrorist rammed several soldiers with his car. Also killed was Netanel Kahalani, 20. Two others were wounded, one seriously.
According to Hebrew news site Walla, at the funeral at the military ceremony in Holon, Daos’ father Ronen said, “Why? What did we do? He was supposed to say Kaddish and bury me, it’s against nature. God protect you above, God takes all the good ones, all the angels.”
Daos’ uncle Yoni, who also spoke, called on the mourners “not to speak of Ziv in the past tense. … Ziv, you will be with us always, your memory will not depart from our hearts. … There is a great void that will be difficult to fill, especially in the hearts of your parents and sisters.”
He also referred to Daos’ great uncle, who was killed in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, saying, “The lightning of mourning struck twice.”
Daos’ cousin Yuval called him “a hero of Israel” and said he “cannot accept that you are no longer with us.”
Minister of Science and Technology Ofir Akunis, who attended the funeral, said to Daos’ parents, “All Israel embraces you with love and salutes you.” He also called for the death penalty for the terrorist, saying, “Anyone who takes [soldiers’] lives should know that capital punishment is the punishment for whoever harms our soldiers.”
Daos was also eulogized by his commanding officer Sharon Iteach, who pledged that Daos’ parents would be “part of the Kedem Brigade family forever.” He promised that “Ziv will never be forgotten.”
He also said of Daos, “You were distinguished by actions, not words. … About people like you it is said, ‘Still waters run deep.’ You touched the hearts of your commanders and those you commanded.”
