The former chief of Israel Defense Forces intelligence highlighted on Monday several factors restraining an aggressive Iranian response to the strikes on multiple targets overnight in Syria. The strikes reportedly killed several Iranian military personnel and destroyed 200 missiles.
In a series of tweets, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Amos Yadlin – now the Executive Director of Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) – pointed to a range of domestic and international restraints on Iran, from concerns over the 2015 nuclear deal to Russia’s apparent distaste for a regional conflagration.
8.Restraining factors: growing criticism in Iran against Gen. Suleimani, sent to rescue Assad and chose to provoke Israel in addition;Iran declining to provide more reasons for Trump to withdraw from JCPOA;Russia’s risk of an escalation to war undermining its achievements in Syria

Yadlin concluded: “The question on trial is sharpening: Jerusalem’s resolve and power, set against Iran’s determination and Quds Force.”
