New York Times: After ‘Vile’ Antisemitic Speech, Time Has Come for Palestinian Leader Abbas to ‘Leave Office’

The New York Times editorial board on Thursday said it was time for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to “leave office,” following an antisemitic speech on Monday in which the 82-year-old autocrat claimed Jews had suffered historically because of their behavior.
By “[f]eeding reprehensible anti-Semitic myths and conspiracy theories,” Abbas, The New York Times noted, had “shed all credibility as a trustworthy partner if the Palestinians and Israelis ever again have the nerve to try negotiations.”
After calling Abbas’ “vile” address a “new low” for him, The New York Times went on to assert, “Palestinians need a leader with energy, integrity and vision, one who might have a better chance of achieving Palestinian independence and enabling both peoples to live in peace.”
