Natalie Portman Says She Accidentally Invited Meryl Streep to Her Jewish Holiday Celebrations for Last Three Years

Natalie Portman revealed on Thursday that for the last three years she had been accidentally inviting fellow actress Meryl Streep to celebrate the Jewish holidays with her and her family.
Portman explained the mishap during her guest appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The “Vox Lux” star said she thought she was texting her cousin Meryl and inviting her over for the holidays, but in fact she was messaging a different Meryl.
Discussing Hanukkah with the show’s host, Portman said, “I had a weird Jewish holiday thing this year.”
She told Meyers that her cousin Meryl, who is an illustrator, moved from New York to Los Angeles with her husband last year and “we’ve been inviting them to all our Jewish holidays and everything and the last three holidays she didn’t reply.”
Portman continued, “I was like, ‘Did I do something to offend her? Did I hurt her feelings? Is she holding a grudge?’ I was like, ‘She’s totally not that type of person.'”
When the actress Portman started to draft another text to her cousin, inviting her to her home for Yom Kippur, she noticed that she had two Meryls in her phone book, and that she was texting the wrong one the whole time.
“I was like, ‘Oh no!”‘ Portman said. “Of course I called and explained.”
Portman’s cousin later poked fun at the ordeal and gave the actress a portrait of Streep with the message, “Natalie, may you be inscribed in the book of life. And stop texting me.” The drawing was signed with Streep’s name.
