The Algemeiner held its eighth annual Summer Benefit on Monday in New York City.
PBS host Margaret Hoover and Washington Post editor Jackson Diehl received “Journalist of the Year” awards, and entrepreneur Cyril Berdugo was also honored at the event.
More than 300 people were in attendance at the historic Angel Orensanz Foundation on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
The evening was emceed by sports anchor Andy Adler, and included remarks from philanthropist Ari Ackerman. Fashion influencer Elizabeth Savetsky hosted the red carpet.
In his address, Dovid Efune, the editor-in-chief of The Algemeiner, said, “Wherever it is found we will fight the dark defamation of the Jewish people with the bright light of truth. We will not pause nor waver with the knowledge that if we join our hands together in this great effort, we may one day see a world where the tide of hatred starts to recede once and for all.”
Founded in 1972 as a Yiddish broadsheet by veteran journalist Gershon Jacobson, today The Algemeiner publishes a weekly newspaper in English and this ever-popular website.
