Syrian media outlets are claiming that Israel struck targets in Syria for the second time in two days.

According to Hebrew news website Mako, citing Syrian news agency SANA, anti-aircraft defenses were activated on Saturday against foreign forces that entered the country’s air space from the direction of Israel.

A military source reportedly told Syrian television that the anti-aircraft defenses responded to “hostile targets that came from the direction of Israel and downed several of them.” Residents reported hearing explosions on the night of the claimed attack.

The site of the strike was Al Kiswah, a city south of Damascus that has become a center of activity for Iranian forces in Syria and its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah. Over the last year, the site has been struck several times, reportedly by the Israeli Air Force.

Another report indicated explosions near the Damascus airport. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that the attack targeted elements from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which was recently designated a terrorist organization by the US government.

Saturday’s apparent strike comes a day after a similar incident in which explosions rocked Damascus that the Syrian media claimed were the result of Israeli military action.
