A group of Boston-area Jewish teenagers helped rescue a drowning man who later proved to have a swastika tattoo.

“They wanted just to let him know that it was four young Jewish boys that helped save his life,” said a police officer who was on the scene.

According to Boston’s local Channel 10 news station, the teens were yeshiva students from the suburb of Brighton who were walking around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir.

They spotted a man in the water and asked Boston College police officer Carl Mascoli for help.

“As I approached them, two of them ran up to my car,” Mascoli said. “There was a body in the water.”

“While I was pulling him out of the water, I also observed that he had a swastika on his hand,” he recounted.

Mascoli told the teens about the tattoo and said “sometimes some deeds have a funny way of turning around. Their good deed had a little bit of a twist to it.”

The teens were apparently unfazed by the news.

“They wanted just to let him know that it was four young Jewish boys that helped save his life,” Mascioli said. “A good deed is a good deed and that’s part of life. We should be helping everybody out.”
