A Muslim hairdresser and her husband have been convicted of plotting a violent anti-Semitic attack in a Jewish neighborhood of Manchester, according to the Huffington Post.
UK-born 38-year-old Shasta Khan and her husband, Mohammed Sajid Khan, 33, purchased substances and equipment from supermarkets to build a home-made explosive device.
Mrs. Khan was found guilty by an 11-1 majority ruling from the Manchester Crown Court jury for organizing potential terrorist activity. She was also tried for two more counts of owning information useful for potentially performing an act of terror but was found not guilty for a third count of that charge.
The discovery of supplies of dangerous materials in the Khans’ home in Manchester was made last year when police were called to handle a domestic dispute between the couple.
The materials included violent videos displaying beheadings, propaganda about Osama bin Laden, and explosive-making guides from an al-Qaida magazine. Peroxide and bleach, typically used by Mrs. Khan for her hairdressing work, were to be used together with electrical equipment such as wires and Christmas tree lights to create a bomb. Other household items that were to be used in the bomb included acetone, salt, sugar, ground-up fire lighters, safety goggles, a funnel, needles and syringes.
The Khans were also found to have scouted areas around Manchester inhabited by Jews to carry out the attack.
Mr. Khan pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing for the charge that he had prepared for acts of terrorism against the Jewish community. Both are to be sentenced tomorrow afternoon.
