The head of Britain’s intelligence service made a secret visit to Israel recently, to make clear his country is opposed to an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
Sir John Sawyers, the head of Britain’s MI6, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during an extremely rare visit to a foreign country as an envoy of the British government.
Sawyers relayed his government’s position, which is led by Prime Minister David Cameron, that diplomacy and economic sanctions continue to be the best course of action to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu said that other country’s should refrain from dictating terms to Israel on the Iran issue if they choose to refrain from setting deadlines on using force to stop Iran’s nuclear advances.
“The world tells Israel, ”Wait, there’s still time”. And I say, ”Wait for what? Wait until when?” Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.”
