Legendary Jewish singer and actress Barbra Streisand will be a guest speaker on a group call Thursday that is aimed at rallying support among Jewish women for US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The group Jewish Women for Kamala announced on Monday that the eight-time Grammy winner will join its upcoming virtual meeting of voters supporting Harris and her newly appointed running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The virtual event will take place at 8 pm ET on Thursday and Streisand will talk on the call about “why she’s all in for Kamala.”
“Kamala and Tim have our backs, and Jewish women want to show that we have theirs — let’s make sure we say so loudly and clearly! Mishpocha [family] welcome!” the group said in its announcement about the call. All genders and Jewish allies are also welcome to join the call, which is hosted by Jewish Women for Kamala and cosponsored by the Jewish Democratic Council of America PAC.
Th group Jewish Women for Kamala is described as “a large and diverse network of Jewish women around the country volunteering to help elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
Streisand spoke out in support for Harris when US President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 White House race in July and endorsed his vice president. “Trump is a pathological liar who lies as easily as he breathes,” Streisand tweeted on July 22. “He wants to take away women’s rights and destroy our great democracy. Kamala Harris will continue Joe Biden’s work and will be a great president.”
In July, a number of male celebrities — including Jeff Bridges, Mark Hamill, Josh Gad, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Groban, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — joined in on a “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom meeting that attracted more than 180,000 people and raised more than $3.7 million for her presidential campaign. Jewish singer P!nk participated in a Zoom fundraiser for Harris in late July that attracted more than 160,000 people, according to Reuters.
