Jewish actor-director and New York Knicks superfan Ben Stiller announced on Wednesday that he is making a documentary about the 2026 NBA Championship winners in collaboration with HBO and A24.
Stiller shared the news while making a guest appearance on the podcast “Roommates,” hosted by Finals MVP Jalen Brunson and fellow Knicks champion Josh Hart. Stiller will direct the documentary and said he has the “full cooperation” of Madison Square Garden, home of the Knicks, and the NBA. The multi-part documentary will chronicle the Knicks’ championship run but will also highlight “all eras of the Knicks,” Stiller explained.
“A lot of people wanted to make it happen for a long time and [Knicks owner] Mr. [James] Dolan decided he wanted to do it finally,” Stiller said. “And there are so many great eras of this team, I think when you look at the 70s championships, the 90s runs, and then this team doing it again … we just wanna make it a great doc for the fans.”
Production started “a little bit before the playoff run” and will likely continue “a little more next season,” Stiller shared. “It’s gonna be over the next year that we’re gonna be working on it.”
Stiller called the documentary a “dream project” for him and said he “could not be more excited.”
On Saturday night, the Knicks secured their first NBA championship win since 1973. The team’s victory parade is taking place Thursday in Manhattan.
