A sports presenter who resigned from the BBC in the United Kingdom last year after sharing an anti-Zionist video on social media recently reposted a video online that compares Zionism with Nazism.
The BBC’s former “Match of the Day” presenter Gary Lineker reposted on his Instagram Story a video of anti-Zionist, British-Jewish activist Tony Greenstein giving a speech, as reported by The Telegraph on Sunday.
Greenstein was cleared by a jury last week after being charged with one count of inviting support for the proscribed terrorist group Hamas. In the Instagram video shared by Lineker, Greenstein gives a speech outside Kingston Crown Court after the ruling and says in part: “A jury of 12 men and women decided that I was not a terrorist and that terrorism is not opposition to genocide in Gaza.”
“And I stood here as a Jewish person and I made it clear to the jury that my opposition to Zionism was because I was Jewish, and that Zionism is in the tradition of the Nazis who persecuted Jews,” added the 72-year-old. He also claimed that “opposing genocide is not a crime, supplying arms to Israel to perpetrate genocide is a crime. And that is the nature of the judicial system, they prosecute the wrong people.”
Greenstein was expelled from the UK’s Labour Party in 2018 and from the Green Party this year, both over allegations of antisemitism.
The video shared by Lineker was posted by Cage International, a London-based organization that was named as an Islamist extremist group in the House of Commons in 2024.

Lineker, who was the main presenter of the BBC’s “Match of the Day” since 1999, is a former soccer player. He has publicly criticized Israel in recent years, and after the Hamas-led massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, he called for the Jewish state to be excluded from all international sporting and cultural bodies “until it ends its grave violations of international law … particularly its apartheid rule and the crime of genocide it is perpetuating in Gaza.”
Lineker left the BBC in May 2025 after he was criticized for sharing on social media a post from the group Palestine Lobby about Zionism that included an emoji of a rat, which has historically been used as an antisemitic insult. When announcing his resignation from the BBC, Lineker claimed he did not see the rat illustration in the now-deleted post and “would never consciously repost anything antisemitic.”
“However, I recognize the error and upset that I caused, and reiterate how sorry I am,” he added. “Stepping back now feels like the responsible course of action.”
He also said in a social media video that uploading the clip with the rat emoji was “a genuine mistake and oversight.” Lineker’s agent said his client “did not notice a rodent emoticon added by the author of the post. Although if he had, he would not have made any connection.”
In a recent interview, Lineker said he did not mind losing his job at the BBC and speaking in support of Palestinians. “That didn’t matter to me, losing my job. What mattered to me was losing my dignity,” he explained.
