Dolly Parton’s Wikipedia page was edited to include antisemitic and offensive content mere hours after the country music icon’s death was announced on Tuesday.
The volunteer-led British charity Campaign Against Antisemitism shared a screenshot on social media of the modified Wikipedia page, in which Parton’s profile picture was an image of a Nazi swastika and her name was replaced with the words “Jew lover.”
Other screenshots shared on social media showed that the display title for her Wikipedia page was also altered to reference Adam Lanza, the American mass murderer behind the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 20 children and six adults were killed. In addition, the title of her Wikipedia page appears as “Dolly Parton – Adam Lanza was a hero” in a Google search result, as seen in a separate screenshot posted on X. The hateful edits to Parton’s Wikipedia page have since been removed.
“The idea that someone would choose to exploit her death to spread antisemitic abuse is utterly despicable,” said CAA. “It takes a truly warped mind to turn a moment of mourning into an outlet for hatred.”
This is depraved.
Dolly Parton’s Wikipedia page was vandalised with a swastika and the words ‘Jew lover’ just hours after she died, we understand.
These vile edits are no longer there, but the idea that someone would choose to exploit her death to spread antisemitic abuse is… pic.twitter.com/3ZKbgJBqPa

Wikipedia is an online open-content collaborative encyclopedia in which anyone can edit its content, but the website has an active community of editors who monitor new and changing content, as noted in its “general disclaimer.” The website explicitly states that it “cannot guarantee the validity of the information found here.”
The Algemeiner has previously reported on coordinated efforts by ideologically motivated Wikipedia editors to use the site to spread anti-Israel propaganda and antisemitic narratives.
Born Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, the music icon died on Tuesday at the age of 80 following a “brief battle with cancer,” according to her representatives. She died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parton was a singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, playwright, and author. Her most famous songs include “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “Islands in the Stream.” She starred in movies including “9 to 5,” “Steel Magnolias,” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.”
Parton also founded the literacy program Imagination Library, which provides free books to children around the world. She was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Sevier County, Tennessee.
“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family,” her team said in a released statement following her passing. “Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”
“Dolly opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians, and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent,” her nephew and head of security Bryan Seaver said while announcing Parton’s death in a video message shared on her official Instagram page. “By her example, we believed that anything was possible. She never saw a door she couldn’t open and the doors she opened made and changed history … our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever.”
Parton’s representatives said a small, private funeral service will be held for her immediate family, at her request. In lieu of flowers, her family asked for donations to be made to Parton’s Imagination Library in her memory.
