A report on the official website of Iran’s Intelligence ministry claims that U.S. President Barack Obama has a “completely different” approach to Iran than Israel.
According to a story in The UK’s Telegraph daily which quotes the AFP, the Iranian report, which appears to have been prepared before Tuesday’s election, stated that “The Republican party has a more severe confrontational approach towards Iran … and its proposed policies are close to those of the Zionist (Israel) regime.”
“Although Democrats have not hesitated in implementing hostile policies against the Iranian nation and repeatedly say that ‘all options are on the table,’ they have pinned their hope on diplomacy,” the report said.
The report contradicts much of the incendiary rhetoric cast at President Obama by Iran’s leaders during his first term that claimed he was kowtowing to Israeli demands.
The report also noted that U.S. sanctions aren’t nearly as severe as European ones. “Although Americans have themselves imposed expansive sanctions against Iran, they are still trailing the Europeans in this regard,” the report said.
On Thursday it was reported that earlier this month Iranian personnel fired on an unmanned American drone in international airspace over the Gulf.
According to the Telegraph story Penatagon spokesman George Little said Thursday that Iran was later warned through diplomatic channels that the US would keep conducting surveillance flights in the region.
