Four rockets struck southern Israel, along the border with Egypt Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported. According to The Jerusalem Post, Israeli Army Radio reported that most rockets fired into the region are Qassams coming from Gaza, but the IDF is investigating whether or not the rockets were fired from the Sinai Peninsula.

According to the Times of Israel a source within the Southern Command told Walla News that IDF troops were called to the border region earlier this afternoon, apparently exchanging fire with smugglers.

The rocket fire interrupted a lull in the recent escalation of rocket attacks coming from Gaza. More than 150 rockets were fired into southern Israel over a four-day stretch which started Saturday and ended Tuesday evening.

Israel promised a fierce response to the rocket fire, but Wednesday Israel and Hamas signaled via Egypt that they would hold  fire unless attacked.

An official involved in the Egyptian mediation confirmed the reports.

“The message was clear, and Israel too told Egypt they were not interested in escalation if rocket firing stopped. The situation now is calm for calm and I hope it does not deteriorate,” the official told Reuters.
