Israeli sources have told The Algemeiner that there is “tense expectation” in Israel “for the reaction of the Presidency of Egypt,” to the Jewish state’s newly launched “Pillar of Defense” Gaza operation and that “all developments (are) possible.” Israel’s Security Cabinet is now in session and reservists in Israel’s Home Front command have been called up.
“Hamas is lobbying (Egyptian President) Morsi to open the (Gaza) border indefinitely to allow for free movement of terrorists to and from Sinai and resupply of long-range weapons,” according to the Israeli source citing Egyptian TV.
The source told The Algemeiner that “Israeli officials are in contact with their Egyptian counterparts,” and their message is, “we had to do it, be reasonable and responsible in your reactions.”
“Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr condemned the series of air strikes that Israel is currently conducting against Gaza Strip and which led to the killing of Ahmed Jabari,” a statement released by Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
The Muslim Brotherhood has called on President Morsi “to review the peace treaty with the Zionist entity”.
According to the Muquata blog citing Israel’s Channel 2 news, “The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is calling for Egyptian President Muhammed Morsi to sever all ties with Israel as a result of the Israeli operation against Gazan terror.”
Channel 2 also says that Morsi’s office plans to hold a press conference today.
UPDATE: According to Egyptian state TV, Egypt recalled its Ambassador to Israel.
