Tel Aviv was rocked midday Wednesday by a terror attack. An explosion on a bus injured 21 people, one seriously and two moderately. Witnesses reported seeing someone put a charger on one of the seats. Police say that a manhunt is under way in the city but so far nobody has been detained.
Daniel Katzenstein works for United Hatzalah of Israel, a volunteer emergency medical organization. He told The Algemeiner that first responders were greeted with an eerie scene. “One of the medics who has been with us for over ten years said it reminded him of the attacks from the early 2000s. But those who had the experience saw right away this was a less intensity explosion,” he said. “They reported that everyone had exited on their own power. People were yelling and screaming and there was general mayhem. There were clouds of smoke, broken glass.”
“The medics scoured the scene looking for any victims that might have been wounded. In the first 30 minutes we got many calls from people who were generally suffering from shock.”
A witness told CNN “We were all sitting in our offices. We heard the explosion, felt the explosion and then went out onto the balcony and saw a whole bunch of ambulances, stretchers, and people stretchered straight into the ambulances.”
According to Israel’s Channel 2 Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said that the police were aware of attempts to hit Israeli targets throughout the country due to the escalation in the south. “The police are on high alert level since the beginning of the operation,” he said according to a translation. “Since the first day I wanted to raise the alert level of all rescue forces; beyond missiles in the South – I warned against such a scenario. I asked an alert to the possibility of a terrorist attack and I hope it will be the last attack.”
