Simon Wiesenthal having just uttered the words "I have never forgotten you" at the Kotel, in the documentary which was beamed into Iran this International Holocaust Memorial Day Weekend.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center said that “Genocide,” its Oscar-winning documentary about the Holocaust, was broadcast across Iran and the Middle East this weekend in commemoration of International Holocaust Memorial Day. The 128-minute long documentary, featuring narration by Orson Welles and Elizabeth Taylor, was broadcast by Irantv.com on Friday and Saturday, with subtitles in Farsi.
“The Iranian Regime pursues a state policy of denying the Shoah and denigrating the 6 million as part of its pre-genocidal anti-Jewish campaign. The availability of Genocide for viewing from a satellite dish, on a computer or iPhone means that for the first time millions of young Iranians can get access to the truth,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean of the Wiesenthal Center.
In 1981, Rabbi Hier won the award for Best Documentary Oscar for Genocide, the first movie about the Holocaust to win an Oscar.
“The timing of this screening to coincide with International Holocaust Memorial Day is especially meaningful as it is being presented by Muslims, to Muslims in Iran and throughout the region at a time when Jew-hatred, and Holocaust revisionism is rampant in the Middle East,” Hier and Cooper added.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently praised Holocaust denial at a UN meeting in New York. Notably, the US delegation remained seated throughout the duration of his speech.
