Popular Israeli entertainer Einat Sarouf is bringing her crowd-sweeping sing-a-long showcase phenomenon to Times Square. Over the past decade Sarouf has become a standout favorite for Israeli and Jewish communities around the world, and this week she is set to perform selected dates stateside.
Sarouf, who’s already been on the list of the 100 most influential people in Israeli culture, has perfected the Israeli traditional and contemporary hits “Shira Be’Tzibur” act, which draws crowds of all ages, from simple folk to heads of state. A stop at her weekly show at Tel Aviv hot spot The Genki has proven to be one the most sought after tickets in town.
Last year, while Paul Simon was rehearsing for his Tel Aviv concert, his longtime guitarist, Mark Stewart, took the time to see Sarouf live. Stewart, a regular collaborator with Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Sir Paul McCartney, even came up on the stage and stated that “Sarouf’s charisma and showmanship is something he has yet to have seen in a performing artist.”
Sarouf occasionally travels globally for private events and is considered a personal favorite of president Shimon Peres for his formal parties, with her right amount of all-Israel flavoring. Her current US visit kicks off Thursday as part of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation 2013 Main Event. On Sunday she is slated to perform at the legendary B. B. King Blues Club in New York City, before heading to the west coast for a show at The Israeli Cultural Connection event in Palo Alto on Valentine’s Day.
