Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has invited Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to visit Ramallah, in the West Bank. The invitation was extended during a meeting between the two in Cairo on Wednesday, according to Israel Hayom. Both leaders were in Egypt for an Islamic Summit.
During their meeting the two discussed the political process, the Palestinian Authority’s financial situation and the reconciliation efforts between Abbas’s Fatah movement and rival Hamas, it was reported.
Ahmadinejad reportedly continued to offer his support to the Palestinian Arabs, adding, “Israel is in a position of weakness and if the resistance of nations and Palestinian groups continues, undoubtedly the future outlook of nations will be brighter.”
The meeting came on the same day that Ahmadinejad was reported as saying that Iran would wipe Israel out if it or any other Muslim country was attacked.
“The Iranian people will stampede and trample Israel. The Zionists think they can attack Iran or any other Islamic country, but the Zionist enemy is fearful of our response and its harsh consequences. Anyone who attacks us will be forced to pay and be sorry.”
“The Zionists… hope to aggress Iran and attack it, but they are very afraid of the Iranian reaction and of the consequences of such an attack,” he was also reported as having said.
