Jewish Population on Campus
Jewish students make up about 10 percent of the undergraduate population at the University at Buffalo, the largest campus in the State University of New York system. Students can obtain either a BA or minor in Jewish Studies from the Department of Jewish Thought, and engage with the Jewish community through a variety of Hillel programming, like the Mysterious Maccabee Hanukkah gift exchange. Chabad at Buffalo also offers weekly Shabbat services and dinners, along with a “Judaism in a Semester” education program, which includes classes, a field trip, and a stipend. For more observant students, the on-campus NY Deli and Diner serves kosher food five days a week. The school does have an SJP chapter, which in March 2017 hosted a speaker who claimed that Israel's actions were "almost identical" to the UN definition of genocide, but is not a hotbed of BDS activity.
